Canterbury Lamb Shanks slow cooked Moroccan Style served with creamy garlic mash and a selection of our garden vegetables.

Fresh Crayfish (Rock Lobster) is available at certain times of the year – if you would like us to source this fabulous West Coast specialty then just let us know. A seasonal surcharge may apply - please ask us about this.

 

This selection of menu items is from a wide range of dishes available, all of which are seasonal, therefor not all are available at all times of the year. A Lodge Dinner is a three course meal which is planned around your dietary needs or any special request.

With 15 years experience in the hospitality industry Alison's cooking is her forte. All food served at Birds Ferry Lodge is prepared from fresh, largely homegrown ingredients.We serve what is in season and available locally,adding few airmiles to the dishes.Grass fed Beef is sourced from a neighbouring farmer at Costello Hill. Locally caught Crayfish and whitebait regularly features on the menu.

Guests comment upon the generous use of fresh vegetables and salads - often lacking when you are travelling.They are usually from our garden and are spray free.

Breakfast sausages and bacon are supplied by the famous Runanga Butcher - 'Jones'. Mr Jones runs his butchers shop the old fashioned way - smoking their own bacon and salmon and making sausages and black pudding to a Scottish family recipe. Alison makes her own Feta, cheddar and mascapone cheeses as well as using home grown fruit in jams and jellies for the breakfast table.

An Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate is held by Alison and this is updated regularly.

A wide variety of special dietary requirements can be catered for with prior notification. Please feel free to ask us about this.

A three course dinner with wine is available @ $75 per person when booked one day in advance which includes half a bottle of New Zealand wine that you choose from our wine list.When making your reservation why not book dinner and allow us to pamper you.

Catering for Ferry Mans Cottage

Once you arrive at Ferry Mans Cottage you may not want to cook or even venture out so we are happy to provide a 'Cottage Dinner' on the one night of your choice.This quality two course, homestyle meal will await you in the cottage on your arrival, needing only to be heated at your convenience. Prior reservation essential - please ask us about the wide range of starters, mains and desserts available.We use locally sourced produce including our own fresh vegetables.
